The sole purpose of this update is to allow users to be able to edit messages that have been sent on WhatsApp but this feature also comes with some limitations. One of these is that you can only edit messages that have been sent after fifteen (15) minutes.

After the 15-minute window has closed, the option to edit messages will be removed from such a message and you wouldn’t be able to edit it anymore you may need to delete the message and resend it if you have to.

This feature to be released on the iOS Beta version 23.4.0.72 and Android Beta version 2.22.22.14 is a very important feature for WhatsApp users and has been one of those features that have been constantly requested by its users after its Rival – Telegram rolled out the feature a few years back. iMessage is also another messaging application that has this feature rolled out for its users.

For you to even get the “Edit message” feature on your iOS device, you need to be on the Beta version of the WhatsApp application, for you to join WhatsApp’s Beta version for iOS devices, follow the steps below:

  1. Head on to the Apple AppStore
  2. Search for the TestFlightapplication and download it
  3. Allow all necessary permissions and in your app drawer shown, tap on “WhatsApp”
  4. Accept the terms and conditions for being a Beta tester for WhatsApp
  5. You should now be able to get all Beta versions of WhatsApp rolled out via the TestFlight application on your iOS device.

Now, to use the edit feature on your iOS device;

  1. Open your Beta WhatsApp Application
  2. Tap on one of your chats
  3. Send them a message
  4. If you now wish to edit such a message, hold on the chat, on the quick toolbar shown, tap on “Edit message”
  5. Now, you can re-edit your message and send it as long as the message you’re trying to edit was sent within 15 minutes of sending the message to the other party.

For you to even get the “Edit message” feature on your Android device, you need to be on the Beta version of the WhatsApp application, for you to join WhatsApp’s Beta version for Android devices,you can simply join the WhatsApp Beta program on the Google PlayStore. But;

If the Beta program for WhatsApp is filled up, you can use a website like APKMirror to get the latest Beta Version of WhatsApp for Android devices and download it directly from the website and then install it into your device.

Editing messages sent on your Android device is very similar to that of the iPhone with just minor differences. Here are the steps on how you can edit WhatsApp messages on Android devices:

  1. Open your Beta WhatsApp Application on your Android device
  2. Tap on one of your chats
  3. Send them a message
  4. If you now wish to edit such a message, hold on the chat
  5. At the top of your chat window, tap on the “Pencil” icon and your message should be taken to edit mode
  6. Now, you can re-edit your message and send it as long as the message you’re trying to edit was sent within 15 minutes of sending the message to the other party.
